Casio VL-Tone (VL-1)

Casio VL-ToneSpeaking of musical adding machines, the VL-Tone was my first digital keyboard. And it was also a calculator, so I had an excuse to take it to school with me.

I can’t believe I still have this. It’s unique sound was immortalised by Trio’s “Da Da Da (I Don’t Love You You Don’t Love Me)”, which was later revived by those music-loving folks at Arnold Communications in a commercial for Volkswagen.

Bears a remarkable familial similarity to the MT-52. I have recorded all 10 VL-1 rhythms and converted them to RX2 format as part of what I hope will be an ongoing beat box ReCycling project. Download the zip archive here.
